Founder

Kwadwo Gyateng-Dakwa was born in Accra, Ghana. He traveled to Russia and graduated from Volgograd Medical Academy (1990). After graduation, he came to Seton Hall in New Jersey to study pediatrics in his Internship (1997). Subsequently he went to Howard University in Washington DC and did his residency in Anesthesia (2001).  From there he was selected to Yale University for his Fellowship in Critical Care Medicine and Anesthesia (2002). After teaching at Yale and doing work with other physicians, Dr. Dakwa came to North Carolina and opened clinic. HEAG is an acronym for Health and Education Access for Ghana.

Clinical Information

Dr. Dakwa is a member of the American Academy of Pain Management, American Society of Anesthesiologists, American Medical Association, Society of Critical Care Medicine, North Carolina Medical Society and the International Hospital Federation.

HEAG Pain Management has clinics in Greenville, Durham, Archdale and Greensboro as well as a high-complexity urine toxicology laboratory in a separate Greensboro location.


Dr. Dakwa opened the HEAG Pain Management Center, P.A. in 2006, and currently operates four locations in the state of North Carolina, USA. Before opening the center, Dr. Dakwa worked as an assistant professor at the Yale School of Medicine, Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care for five years, after completing his residency at Howard University.

HEAG Medical Community Ghana ("HMCG") Project

HMCG operates a multi-disciplinary physicians office, which will include private care physician services, as well as physical therapy services, a dialysis center, and a rehabilitative center, among other services.  Once this operation is fully functional, management plans to turn its focus to building a multi-specialty hospital, similar to the Bumrungrad International Clinic (website: https://www.bumrungrad.com/)


HEAG Medical Center Ghana (“HMCG”) is established as a private, for-profit service provider, Phase  I  new 41,000 sustainable medical care/treatment square foot facilities. It will build a strong market presence and brand recognition by offering the highest quality, world-class services at a competitive price. HMCG will meet the broad healthcare needs of a growing and demanding higher income demographic in the Greater Accra Region, and also providing medical health humanitarian outreach services for the rest of Ghana, and beyond.

HMCG will provide partnering opportunities with specialists, both national and international, in every medical and surgical field, will network with pharmaceutical FDA Drugs, Medical supplies providing management and distribution.  The HEAG Medical Management Team will provide the ability to set up private practices within the facility. These medical professionals will work effectively with each other to ensure a team-based approach to patient care which will be a key to HMCG’s success.

John Amos came to Greensboro on August 28th, 2015 to visit with Dr. Dakwa about his work in Ghana.

John Amos, of Roots fame and many others series is meeting with Dr. Dakwa at Dr. Dakwa's HEAG Pain Management Clinic to discuss Dr. Dakwa's plans for Ghana which includes starting a school to train health care workers and a Hospital to provide world class medical services to the people of Ghana. In this manner, the people of Ghana will be able to sustain the hospital with Ghanaian health care workers. This double design of education and medicine will have enormous impacts on health improvement as well as offering unprecedented opportunities educationally, vocationally, medically and economically.
